Ranking of Poker hands
Poker is played with a deck of 52 cards. The ace is the highest card, the 2 the lowest.
Ranking of cards (beginning with the highest): A-K-Q-J-10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2
Exeption: In a Straight or Straight Flush, the ace can be the lowest card, too. In all most common Poker versions like Texas Hold'em, Seven Card Stud or Omaha Hold'em the colours of the cards have no impact on the ranking.
The Kicker: It may sometimes happen that two players (or even more) have the same Poker hand. In that case, the one with the highest kicker wins. Example: A player has a pair of kings, besides his highest card is a queen. Another player has also a pair of kings, but besides his highest card is just a 10. Hence the first player in this example has the better kicker and beats the other player.
Royal Flush
Five sequenced cards of the same colour from 10 to the ace
Straight Flush
Five sequenced cards of the same colour. Example: 7D, 8D, 9D, 10D, JD
Four of a Kind
Four cards of the same value
Full House
Consists of three cards of the same value and a pair of another value. If two players have a Full House, the one with the higher triplet wins. Example: QH, QS, KD, KC, KH
Flush
Consists of five random cards of the same colour. If two players have a flush, the one with the highest card in the flush wins. Example: AS, 5S, 7S, 9S, JS
Straight
A Straight consists of five sequenced cards that don't have the same colour. The ace can count as the highest or the lowest card here. A,2,3,4,5 hence is the lowest Straight.
Three of a Kind
Consists of three cards of the same value. Example: KH, KD, KC. Also called Set oder Triplet.
Two Pair
Twice two cards of the same value. If two players have two pairs the player with the highest pair wins. Example: JC, JH, QS, QD
One Pair
Two cards of the same value: If two players have a pair the one with higher pair wins. Example: 10C, 10S
High Card
A Poker hand that doesn't form any of the previously mentioned combinations. If two players only have High Card, the player with the highest card wins.
